  • Online Recruiting Packet: Background Material About FLS and Reflections from Former Interns

FLS is a non-profit public interest law firm, and every summer we hire law students as Summer Associates, as well as other interns. Please click on the above links to see more information about our positions.

In the past, FLS has employed law students from the following law schools: University of Illinois, the University of Michigan, Michigan State University, Northern Kentucky University, Valparaiso University, and Vermont Law School. Click on the links above for more information about our summer associate program.

Since most of our law students come from out of state, we interview applicants via video conference through Skype or Google Hangouts. The interviews will always consist of a few questions in Spanish.

We occasionally hire exceptionally-qualified undergraduates as summer interns. Recently we have had interns from Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo College, the University of Michigan, and Spring Arbor University.

We have compiled an online hiring packet for interested students. The packet contains more information about a summer position with FLS, including student testimonials, our FLS Calendar, and more news about FLS. You can view the packet using the link above.

Law students have often been able to find outside funding sources for the summer. Examples are:

-- Equal Justice Works AmeriCorps JD (formerly Summer Corps).  Availability of funding depends on EJW's current priority areas.

-- Equal Justice America Legal Services Fellowships

-- PSJD compiles a list of many summer funding resources.

-- Many law schools have their own summer public interest fellowships.
